Nunavut Communities
In 2018 SSi launched SSi Mobile in Nunavut, Qiniq’s new voice and data service with coverage in all 25 communities. For 16 of these communities, this was groundbreaking: the first time ever to have cell phone service! As a result of this unprecedented and innovative success, SSi was honored with Startup Canada’s National High-Growth Entrepreneurship Award sponsored by Mastercard Canada.
SSi Mobile delivers an equitable and affordable cell service for all Nunavummiut: with the latest LTE technology, no contracts, crystal clear voice service, no long-distance charges in Nunavut, and a quality data network powering smart phones and data services. And all that with affordable pricing comparable to plans in the south, starting at $25 per month for a talk and text option, and ranging up to $110 per month with unlimited calling, texting and 5 gigabytes of data.
SSi Empowers Inuit
Youth Leadership
SSi Sponsors Outward Bound Program
In keeping with SSi’s commitment to Canada’s North and to Northern youth, SSi sponsored the round-trip travel costs for two Inuit youth, enabling them to participate in a 21-day Outward Bound Indigenous leadership program in the Bay of Fundy area. Charlene Porter from Gjoa Haven and Falisha Niakrok from Rankin Inlet were flown down to Ottawa and then on to Saint John, New Brunswick for the adventure of a lifetime! SSi staff even housed the girls as they travelled through Ottawa.
They stopped in to the SSi Ottawa office to meet some of the team, enjoy a celebration lunch and thank everyone for their support.
